Project Title

The “Black Perinatal Project” website

Developed in partnership with the co-founders of the Black Perinatal Project, a peer-led collective that supports and sustains access and funding to perinatal support to improve the health and birthing outcomes and experiences of Black communities in Washington state.

Goal

This website serves as a platform to connect families with the support they need and raise awareness about the unique challenges faced by Black families during pregnancy and childbirth. The website also includes information about the organization’s advocacy efforts to secure funding and provide grants for perinatal support services for Black birthing people, as well as education for Black birth workers.

Approach

While working closely with this team, we determined that they wanted to create a space that was inviting and warm, with design elements inspired by varying shades of melanated people, organic materials, and earth. They wanted a website that was both useful and impactful, celebrating the beauty of Black birthing people and those who support them in their birthing journeys.

I met with the co-founders of the Black Perinatal Project to discuss their vision for their branding and website. We collaborated throughout the process, from logo design to final color palettes, until we came to the website you see today. These co-founders expressed great passion for their work and the community they work for and in turn, I honed in on that energy to drive the website’s design elements.

Graphic Elements & Imagery

Donation call to action block

The client requested imagery depicting various shades of Black mothers. I sourced stock photography and replaced the background to better align with the brown tones and textural nature of the branding and color palette.

Custom headshot design included the addition of organic elements and shapes.
